Ramen @ Zenya

——-14/07/2012——-

If you are willing to brave the car parking nightmare at Eastwood, Zenya is a good choice amongst the Asian hustle and bustle.

The bad thing is that the dining area is small and there is usually a line. We waited  15 minutes or so to get a table for 5 people.

Tako-yaki deep fried baby octopus balls with delicious sauce, Japanese mayo and bonito flakes (Zenya set $3.00 extra with our  ramen).

Gyoza pork and vegetable dumplings with Japanese soy and citrus dipping sauce (Zenya set  $3.00 extra with our ramen).

The ramen (in 4 ways) had a thick rich soup, I have had better but this would make it into my top 5 ramen places in Australia (that I’ve tried so far). I found the pork schnitzel too thick and filling, the roast pork was much better but served in smaller portions.

Ton-Katsu Ramen (pork/chicken soup) soy flavoured soup noodle topped with bean sprout, nori paper, dried mushroom, bamboo shoots, shallots, boiled egg and pork schnitzel ($14.80)

Spicy Miso Ramen (pork soup) spicy miso flavoured soup noodle topped with bean sprout, nori paper, dried mushroom, bamboo shoots, sweet corn, shallots, boiled egg, our succulent roasted pork and fresh chilli ($12.80)

Sho-yu Ramen (pork soup) soy flavoured soup noodle topped with bean sprout, nori paper, dried mushroom, bamboo shoots, shallots, boiled egg and our succulent roasted pork ($10.80)

Kogashi-Ninniku Ramen (pork soup) soy flavoured soup noodle topped with bean sprout, nori paper, dried mushroom, bamboo shoots, shallots, boiled egg, our succulent roasted pork and caramelised garlic ($11.80)

Despite the wait for a table, you can get good quality ramen for a decent price, all and all  it doesn’t sound like a bad meal option and with all these cold nights in Canberra, I wish that Zenya was closer.
